The rules here

💰Upfront deposit

The cash must be in the account by 18:00 on the day the offer price is set. It is not needed when you apply.

🎯How the lottery works

Fully equal. There is no preferential allocation based on trading history or assets held.

🔓When your money is locked

Only if you win. Losing applications tie up nothing.

🎫Reserve places

Yes. Promotions from the reserve list are announced on the last day of the purchase window.

From applying to owning

  1. Apply during book building

Confirm you have viewed the prospectus and apply through the app or website. No money is needed at this point.

  2. Fund the account by 18:00 on the pricing day

Deposit the offer price multiplied by the number of shares you applied for.

  3. Check the result

The draw runs around 18:00 the same day. Results appear on the site and by email.

  4. Confirm that you want to buy

If you win, or are placed in reserve, complete the purchase step within the purchase window.

  5. Wait for the listing day

If you are in reserve, check the promotion announcement at 14:00 on the final day.

Worth knowing before you apply

  • If the money is not in the account by 18:00 on the day of the draw, your application is excluded. Applying is not the last step.
  • For listings where you may apply for more than one lot of 100 shares, each lot is a separate entry in the draw. There is no advantage from trading history, but someone who can apply for more lots does get more entries.
  • Winning is not the end. If you do not complete the purchase step within the window, you lose the shares.

Who this suits

  • People who already use Rakuten services such as its points scheme or credit card
  • Beginners who care about the trading app being easy to use
  • People who do not want their money tied up when they lose

Why this one

The lottery here is fully equal, with no discretion applied by staff. There is no preferential pool for people with a trading record or large holdings — someone who opened an account yesterday is drawn on the same terms as a customer of ten years. Most listings cap applications at one lot of 100 shares, which in practice means one ticket each. On large listings where the cap is higher, each lot you apply for is another entry, so someone able to apply for more does get more chances.

A rule change in October 2025 removed the requirement to have money tied up at the point of application. The deadline for funding is 18:00 on the day the offer price is set, and your cash is only locked if you actually win. Reserve places and promotions from the reserve list were introduced at the same time.

Applications go through the same app and website you would use for ordinary trading. Linking a Rakuten Bank account reduces the friction of moving money in before the deadline.

About the company

The online broker of the Rakuten group, closely tied to the group's credit card and points scheme. Shares, investment trusts and the NISA tax-free scheme are all managed through a single app.
