Its published allocation policy says that all of the shares it is allocated are distributed by lottery, with a random number assigned to each application. Nothing about your balance or your trading record changes the outcome. Many brokers place a large part of their allocation by hand with existing clients, so having the whole allocation in the draw is a real advantage.
The catch is the number of opportunities. This broker underwrites very few listings — mostly companies within its own GMO group. Good odds on a deal that rarely happens is still a small number of chances per year.
So it is best understood as a broker you keep open alongside a main one, and check whenever a new listing is announced.
