What stands out

  • Holds no sales and gives no discounts, and discloses that since it was founded 100% of its goods have sold at full price, against the 30-40% it says is typical for apparel companies
  • Buys no advertising space, relying instead on joint projects with well-known creators and on social media
  • In the year to January 2026 it reported revenue of 14.27 billion yen and recurring profit of 4.33 billion yen, well above the 5.45 billion yen and 1.25 billion yen of three years earlier

What could go wrong

  • It depends on a single brand, HUMAN MADE, in a single business segment, so results can swing if fashions change
  • The world the brand projects rests on individuals - creative director NIGO and Pharrell Williams, who is both an adviser and a shareholder - so a change in those relationships would be felt
  • Sales centre on its own online store and seven directly run shops in Japan as of the October 2025 prospectus, while overseas it leans on wholesale and partner-run stores, leaving it exposed to currencies and to local economies

About the company

Sells the clothing and lifestyle goods of HUMAN MADE, the brand directed by creative director NIGO, through its own online store and its own shops.

How it makes money

It runs a single business, its brand, designing and selling HUMAN MADE clothing along with lifestyle goods such as interior items and towels. Sales centre on its own online store and its own shops, and it deliberately keeps the online store on its own site rather than listing on other companies' marketplaces. Overseas, it covers regions where running its own shops would be inefficient by wholesaling to high-end department stores and select shops, and it has one partner-run HUMAN MADE store each in China, South Korea and Hong Kong. It also operates restaurants including the curry chain CURRY UP and earns licensing income from lending out its own intellectual property.

Where growth is meant to come from

Instead of running sales or discounting, it keeps to a policy of making slightly less than it expects to sell and selling it all. It also still avoids buying advertising space, relying instead on joint projects with well-known creators and global brands, and on social media. In August 2026 it announced a plan to open its first flagship store in China in spring 2027. For the year to January 2027 the company forecasts revenue of 18.50 billion yen, 29.6% higher than the previous year, and recurring profit of 4.75 billion yen.
